TCG Strategy

One-Turn Trouble with Shiftry

Step 1:  Play Seedot.

Shiftry has two attacks that can make a huge impact on the course of a match, especially if you can get it in play early on.

Step 2:  Play Forest of Giant Plants.

That's where the Forest of Giant Plants Stadium card comes into play.

Step 3:  Evolve Seedot into Nuzleaf.

This Stadium card allows you to play Seedot and evolve it all the way to Shiftry right away.

Step 4:  Evolve Nuzleaf into Shiftry.

Depending on the situation, Wicked Wind could be the right play, shutting down your opponent's use of Tool or Stadium cards. Or, if you're looking to do major damage, Extrasensory has the potential to hit for 120.

Step 5:  Attach Double Colorless Energy to Shiftry.

You can take care of the attack cost with one Double Colorless Energy. The other requirement to maximize Extrasensory's impact is for you and your opponent to have the same number of cards in hand.

Step 6:  Play Judge.

For that, the Judge Supporter card comes in handy, leaving both of you with four cards.

Step 7:  Hit for 120 in one turn with Extrasensory!

With this start, you can hit for major damage on your very first turn.

Zero to 110 with Mega Gardevoir-EX

Step 1:  Play Mega Gardevoir-EX.

Mega Gardevoir-EX can benefit from being a Fairy- and Psychic-type Pokémon to deliver stunning blows for no Energy cost. Its Despair Ray attack costs one Fairy Energy and one Colorless Energy, and does 110 damage, plus 10 more for each Benched Pokémon you choose to discard.

Step 2:  Play Florges onto your Bench.

To eliminate the Fairy Energy cost, get Florges into play: its Calming Aroma Ability reduces your Pokémon's attack cost by one Fairy Energy.

Step 3:  Play Dimension Valley.

Then, play the Dimension Valley Stadium card, which reduces the attack cost of Psychic-type Pokémon by one Colorless Energy.

Step 4:  Hit for 110 with a free Despair Ray!

When all is done, Mega Gardevoir-EX will be capable of Knocking Out even the toughest Pokémon in just a couple rounds—without ever playing an Energy card.
